Good news! Not a whole lot of blathering from me this time around.
One of the reasons I started this blog was to have a place to run unpublished comics art and stories from across the years.
A lot of my first posts have been related to the Knight Watchman: Graveyard Shift trade paperback published by Pulp 2.0 and available from Amazon.com.
Today’s post (and the followups) are slightly related to it as well. I will be serializing an unpublished story titled “Lady In Waiting” that is being presented here for the first time anywhere, anyplace and anytime. This story is a followup to Graveyard Shift; not THE sequel but more like a back-up to a sequel since it’s only a 10 pager and features Galahad’s daughter (and the Knight Watchman’s grand-niece) Gwen.
Unfortunately, I wanted to print this story in color, and Graveyard Shift, Skeletons In The Closet and Knight of the Living Dead (from Big Bang #’s 28-31 or so) were all black & white, and Big Bang itself was mostly b&w by 2000 or so when this story was finished up, so it has been patiently biding its time waiting to see the light of day. TODAY (or at least this week) is that day.
“Lady In Waiting” was penciled and inked by Clarence (C.B.) Burk, who also provided the art for the Galahad/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossover in Big Bang Comics #10. C.B. was young and fired up, and I have stacks of sketches, pin-ups and drawings from him over a period from 1996 to about 2005. At various times we talked about him drawing Vanguard, Megaton, Knight Watchman, Ultiman and Berzerker, but none of them came to fruition. All I can say is that I wish they had. He was a victim of our being stuck in “retro mode” – – stuck in the past.
The main artwork presented here today is a brand new cover done this year by C.B. to accompany this story. Thanks buddy, and sorry about the abnormally long wait to see this story in print. Also here today is a great Knight Watchman piece he did a year or two before the story itself and a Catwoman pin-up that I’ve always loved.
The story itself will start tomorrow and I will try to remember to post a page a day, plus some other goodies from the pencil and pens of the talented C.B. Burk.
